Would you like to teach English anywhere in the world? You can obtain your teaching qualification while studying in one of the most beautiful cities in the world!

The University of Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) is the most internationally recognised qualification in English language teaching. It provides trainees with teaching knowledge and methodology, practical techniques, and hands-on teaching experience.

​

The CELTA is an initial teaching qualification which is suitable for trainees with no teaching experience or for trainees with some teaching experience but no formal qualification.

​

  • Course length: 4 weeks

  • Hours per week: Full-time

  • Course fee: $3375 (early bird discount available)

  • Maximum Class Size: 12 trainees per course with 2 full-time tutors

 

Content and Assessment:

​

Coursework and performance are continuously assessed by tutors and is also moderated by an external assessor appointed by Cambridge.

​

Teaching practice:

​

You will teach for a total of 6 hours, working with adult classes at a minimum of two levels of ability. Assessment is based on your overall performance.

​

Written assignments:

​

You will complete four written assignments (each 750–1,000 words). These focus on:

​

  • analysing and responding to adult learner needs

  • analysing language for teaching purposes

  • teaching language skills

  • reflecting on classroom teaching

​

Applicants must:

​

  • be a native speaker or have a high level of English (IELTS 7.5 or equivalent)

  • be over 18 years old

  • have a valid visa for studying in New Zealand

  • be able to assimilate knowledge and develop the necessary skills to become effective teachers in a short period of time

  • be able to commit to the four-week course

After completing your course:

​

SLEC has links with agencies all over the world which can help you find a work placement as an ESOL teacher. Advice will be given during the course concerning finding future work.

Certification:

 

The final certificate is issued by Cambridge ESOL.
