Queenstown is situated in the Southern Alps in the South Island of New Zealand. It is located on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and surrounded by majestic mountain ranges.
It is New Zealand’s premier tourist resort and, because of this, the centre has many restaurants, bars, cafes and facilities that are open 24 hours. It also has winter, summer, spring and autumn festivals that attract visitors from all over the world.
It is known as the adventure capital of the world, with many outdoor activities available; such as bungy jumping, jetboating, skydiving, hiking, white water rafting, paragliding, mountain biking and many more.
In winter, June to October, it is New Zealand’s premier ski resort with Coronet Peak, the Remarkables, Snowpark, Waiorau Nordic Ski centre, Cardrona and Treble Cone ski fields close by. People come from all over the world, including many international ski & snowboard teams and professional, to practise their skills at this time of year.
It is the gateway to places such as Milford and Doubtful Sound and is very near to many great treks such as Milford, Kepler, Routeburn, Greenstone, and Caples tracks.
The amazing scenery has been made famous in several films such as Lord of the Rings and countless commercials.
Away from the busy centre there are many wineries and farms and it is surrounded by nature with many local places to visit such as Arrowtown, Wanaka and Glenorchy.
It also has many work opportunities, as it is New Zealand’s fastest growing town with almost zero unemployment.
It is very safe with one of the lowest crime rates in New Zealand, and a relaxed place to study English with local people that are famous for their friendliness.
