look after the cute Kiwi birds and other native animals. Prepare their food and be part of feeding and caring. Also, help with guiding visitors to the birdlife park and also you can just watch or help with Maori Shows at the birdlife park too.
travel to work across the lake on TSS Earnslaw steamship and then do volunteer work at Walter Peak Farm. Help with the farm animals and in the large restaurant helping the tourists that come to visit and see the animals and sheep shearing and sheepdog displays.
help take care of the variety of dogs and cats at the Pet Lodge. This volunteer work is for pet lovers and involves walking and grooming the pets and generally helping to take care of them.
Volunteer work is also available through the department of conservation. This includes plant & tree planting and clearing. This is for students that love working outdoors and helping with the environment.

Queenstown is an ideal location for Senior students because it is the number one tourist resort in New Zealand and therefore there are many activities for Seniors and major attractions such as Milford Sound, Mount Cook, and Dunedin available for weekend excursions.
Our staff are well - qualified, experienced and caring. We pride ourselves on our supportive 'family' atmosphere where students make lifetime friendships as they study, play sport and have fun together. Therefore, this caring environment is perfect for Senior students.
Southern Lakes English College offers a Senior English Course, which has been running since 1993. This Course includes:
- General English class at appropriate level 9 - 12 p.m.
- Activities every afternoon accompanied by a College representative - 22 great activities to choose from
- Arrangement of weekend activities and excursions
- Accommodation in homestay families which are specially selected for Seniors
- College bus transport between College and homestay family
- Airport transfers to and from airport and homestay family
- Transfers to and from all afternoon activities
- Use of all College facilities; including large cafeteria, sports hall, free Internet and free tea and coffee at breaktimes
ENGLISH PLUS FARMSTAY PLACEMENT

We Provide A minimum 1 -week intensive English course (25 hours a week)
Homestay accommodation for one-week minimum followed by one week minimum on a farmstay.
Homestay accommodation includes breakfast and dinner (Monday to Friday) and breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday.
Farmstay accommodation includes all meals Monday to Sunday..
Staying at a homestay and then a farmstay is a great way to learn about life in 2 different New Zealand families.
Your English lessons will help you to communicate with your families and help you better enjoy your farmstay experience.
The farms where students stay are about 30 mins from our college. They are mainly sheep, deer or crop farms.
The things that our students enjoy about staying at a farmstay are:
- watching, touching and hand feeding the animals. From the end of September onwards you will see many cute lambs in the fields.
- you can help as much as you want with the work on the farm which can be really fun.
- you can hear and see the native birds and feel at one with nature in lovely countryside.
- at night time you can see the amazing bright stars in the sky.
- you can have real conversation with kind native speakers and be part of a New Zealand family. Make sure to keep in contact when you return home.
- You can learn about living with the land and doing natural things.
English Plus Fruitpicking
COME AND IMPROVE YOUR ENGLISH AND AFTER YOUR COURSE WORK AT AN ORCHARD OR WINERY IN CENTRAL OTAGO . This will help you get the best out of your fruit picking time after your course you will be able to continue to practise your English with workers from all over the world and earn money to continue your stay.
Requirements
- Working Holiday Visa for under 30.
- Seasonal Work Permits can also be provided for non-working holiday visa holders. (Ask for further information)
- Minimum 6 weeks of English study.
- Starting English study between October and March.
We Provide
General English lessons for all levels - Mon - Friday - 0900 - 1500.
At the end of your course, you will start your work with an orchard or winery in Central Otago . You will be able to work there for as long as you wish for the season, which runs from October to April.
We will organise your placement and transfer you to your work place at the end of your English course. Most orchards or wineries are within 40 mins drive from Queenstown.
Most orchards/ wineries also provide cheap staff accommodation on site, which can be as low as $25/week.
Pay varies but is usually $11/hour. During the busiest period in December and January fruitpickers also receive bonuses for amounts picked and can earn up to $200/day!!!

Option 3 ENGLISH and PRIVATE PILOTS LICENCE
Requirements
Level of English Attained Upper Intermediate
We Provide
- A 12-week English course(15 hours a week)
- 60 Lessons (including a minimum of 50 hours of flight experience)

ENGLISH PLUS GOLF

These days may change according to weather.
Every afternoon can be at a different golf course tailored to the ability level of the student.
Students have the choice to either have Tuesday & Thursday afternoons free (Option 1) or to have English lessons in the afternoon 1300 – 1500 on Tuesday & Thursday (Option 2).
| Afternoon Golf Programme includes:
• Return transport to golf courses including orientation
and check-in assistance at each golf course.
• Cost of green fees
• Rental of Half Golf Club Set, balls and tees.

At weekends there are also 3 golf courses within one hour’s drive namely Clyde, Cromwell & Alexandra. All excellent golf courses too.
Students can also arrange to play at these courses at the weekend through the school.

We can also provide lessons with local golf pros at extra cost.
ENGLISH PLUS HIGH SCHOOL PREPARATION & HIGH SCHOOL HOLIDAY COURSES

We offer a very safe and caring environment, which is very suitable to prepare students to adapt to high school learning and life. We have been running high school preparation courses since 1993.

- Airport transfers, Daily transport to and from school

- An orientation programme to help students understand and cope with NZ lifestyle and culture
- Special tutoring in high school subjects especially developing vocabulary knowledge to help with these subjects
- Assistance in transition between southern lakes English College and High school
- Special student support and counselling with guardianship programme
We also offer a variety of English courses for high school students during their holidays for students already in New Zealand.
ENGLISH PLUS HOBBY CLASSES

We Provide
A minimum 4-week intensive English course (25 hours a week)
A minimum one-hour session/week on a creative hobby of your choice. You can choose more than one hobby. These hobbies are either local clubs or private teachers depending on the type of hobby.
SOME OF THE HOBBY CLASSES AVAILABLE
- Singing club – learn to sing jazz or some traditional New Zealand songs with an experienced and qualified teacher
- Flower arranging – learn how to arrange flowers with a local florist
- Cooking club – learn how to cook traditional New Zealand recipes and/or international dishes to impress your friends and family when you return to your country.
- Drama club – improve your English confidence by learning to act and act in front of people.
- Dancing club – learn how to dance different styles. Great fun and a great way to meet native people.
- Movie club – watch and discuss movies together. (A good level of English required)
Hobby classes are a great way to learn new things and meet people in the local community so that you can practise your English and make friends outside class, too.
ENGLISH PLUS MOTHER & CHILD PROGRAMME

This is a great way to give your children a head start on their English studies in a safe and stimulating environment.

Requirements

• Homestay with other children of a similar age if possible.
• Placement for the child with a local school or crèche.

Mother studies full-time General English, Examination English or English Plus course from 9.00am to 3pm. Child also studies during the same hours at a crèche, pre-school, elementary or high school.
